Brand Information
Ernest Sohn (1913–?) was a German-born designer who fled Nazi persecution and arrived in the United States in 1936. He established Ernest Sohn Creations (originally Ernest Sohn Associates) in New York around 1951. Sohn became known for elegant, functional mid-century modern housewares in ceramics, metal, wood, and glass combinations. Many of his ceramic designs were produced by Hall China in East Liverpool, Ohio. His work earned recognition in the Good Design exhibitions co-sponsored by the Museum of Modern Art and the Merchandise Mart. The company remained active into the 1970s before mergers and Sohn’s retirement.
This fluted form reflects the clean Scandinavian-influenced lines popular in the 1950s–1960s and pairs beautifully with both mid-century and contemporary interiors.
