The molded scene shows a cozy fireplace with glowing fire, spinning wheel, and a little black cat, with soft hand-painted brown, yellow, and black accents that give it wonderful depth and cottage charm. Brand info:

Porcelier Manufacturing Company, East Liverpool, Ohio, about 1927–1950s. Vitreous china tableware and kitchen pieces, often with raised scenic patterns.

Porcelier Manufacturing Company made vitreous china tableware and kitchen pieces, plus some lighting. Collectors place the start in 1927 in East Liverpool, Ohio, under brothers Fred and Paul Porcelier. Production later shifted to South Greensburg, Pennsylvania, around 1930. The pottery closed in the early 1950s, often dated about 1954. The Greensburg plant was later used by PPG.

The body is vitreous china: fired dense, non-porous, and tougher than ordinary earthenware, which is why these teapots were sold for real kitchen use. Marks are usually “Porcelier” and “Made in U.S.A.,” sometimes with a pattern name.

Raised scenic patterns are what the brand is collected for. Hearth (fireplace, spinning wheel, black cat) is one of the best known. Others include Dutch Boy and Girl, Nautical, Flamingo, and Cobblestone. Color sits in the molded low spots rather than as a full transfer.

Porcelier Manufacturing Co., East Liverpool, Ohio, and later Greensburg, Pennsylvania, about 1927–early 1950s. American vitreous china.
